Ezekwesili Reacts To Purchase Of New Exotic Vehicles For Lawmakers.
Former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, has berated the plans to purchase exotic vehicles for the lawmakers of the 10th National Assembly.
Streetdope reports that the House of Representatives has also concluded plansto share brand new official vehicles to members amidst the hardship going on in the country.
In a statement on Sunday, the Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Akin Rotimi, said the media reports on the acquisition of the vehicles are being exaggerated.
He clarified that the vehicles distributed to members are not for personal use but utility operational vehicles tied to their oversight functions.
According to Rotimi, the vehicles attached to the lawmakers are expected to be returned after their tenure; however, members may be allowed to pay for the outstanding value of the vehicles and claim ownership after their tenure in the National Assembly.
Reacting in a message posted on her account on the X platform on Monday, Ezekwesili said the news of the planned purchase of exotic vehicles is triggering, considering the fact most Nigerians are suffering as a result of the fuel subsidy removal.
The former minister prayed that the members of the National Assembly were wise with the decision at this time.
